Check this out:

Apparently, all women are bisexual.

One thing the story doesn’t talk about is bisexual men. Are there any? Did they just not study them? Did they study them but not mention them in the blog entry? At any rate, this confirms something that I’ve always suspected, and explains, to me at least, why men are generally homophobic and women are generally not.

Ah, Ann Arbor

No Subject

Bloggers are all either nuts or just plain boring. Unfortunately, I think I know which one I am.

At least I have coffee now.

I can’t get no … caffeine

It’s a fucking conspiracy to make me fall asleep. First, the streets are ripped up downtown, so I couldn’t park, to get coffee. The, when I stopped at the mall, the starbucks had a broken bar. No boody fair.

Case modding: pictures

So, I promised pictures of my modding. Here we go. First, the raw computer, as it’s running now:

I almost bought a free-standing globe bar at TJ Maxx today. I think I could get it to fit, and that would have been awesome, but it was $120, which is a bit steep for my first mod attempt. Anyway, here are the two current ideas. First, my old stereo:

And next, a map suit case I bought:

What do you all think? The suitcase would be easier, as it’s bigger. The stereo could end up cooler.

The fall of The Daily Show

Today, we’re watching The Daily Show for the first time in a long time, and I have to say that the show is dead, as far as I’m concerned. It’s become completely about politics. All the news, the guest, everything except Lewis Black was about politics. It was pratcially a news show, and not very funny at all. This is quite sad for me, but not unexpected. Back when Craig was on the show, it was my favorite show on television, and “In the News” was just a bit. Then, he left to go to CBS, and John Stewart was brought on. Initially, it was still quite funny. (Greg will even go so far as to say it was better than with Craig, but I disagree.) At any rate, the tone was similar, and the jokes were similar, and all-in-all, it was a comedy show. Over the years, however, it slipped from comedy into news. Maybe the Peabody awards they won went to their heads, but all the funny “reporters” left, all the funny guests stopped coming on, and all thats left is an extremely left-wing news program with a few more attempted jokes than the rest of the news. RIP Daily Show.

Ah well. At least I still have Craig…

Happy Anniversary

Today is our anniversary. 3 years. Aren’t you all proud of us? We went to the Chop House for dinner. It was an absolutely amazing steak. Truely wonderful. If I was rich, I would eat like that every day, and be unbelievably fat. Wow. However, at $100 for the two of us (with no alcohol. Janette’s diet doesn’t allow it), it’s quite expensive. Very good. Yum. Short, choppy sentence fragments.

That new computer smell

My new computer came! Yay! I don’t have a case for it, for two reasons: First, the case wouldn’t fit into the $200 budget I had for the computer, and second, I’m going to mod this computer into something else. This should be fun. I have the case for my former stereo, which I’m considering using, and I’m going to go garage saling, and to go TJMaxx and so on, looking for interesting things. One idea is to use one of those flip-top globe-bars. That would certainly be interesting.

Anyway, since I don’t have a case, and I’m certainly not going to wait until I have one to start using the new box, I have this odd assortment of cards and drives and stuff sitting on the desk, all wired up and running. As Janette put it, “It’s hard to believe this is actually a working computer.” If her digital camera had arrived, I’d put up a picture, but it hasn’t yet. I will definitly use it to document my case modding, tho.

There were two issues with getting the new computer running. First, I got it all connected up, and went to turn it on, and discovered I didn’t have a power switch! Power switches for ATX computers (basically anything less than 3 years old) are really just a button on the end of a jumper. You press the button, it closes the jumper. An actual switch (what is on AT cases, which is what all of my free cases are) will not work for an ATX motherboard. We went to CompUSA, but they don’t sell just the buttons. Afterall, the button comes in the case, right? Fortunately, I discovered that one of the reset buttons on one of my AT cases would work (ie, it had the right jumper attached to it). Whew! Computer now boots correctly.

The next issue was with the graphics card. See, there are two different (incompatible) types of AGP cards. The older type runs at 3.3 volts, the newer type runs at 1.5 volts. All of my previous cards are the old type. However, I do have a (relatively) new GeForce card. The card comes in two types, one of which is 3.3 volts, one of which is 1.5 volts. I couldn’t for the life of me discover which one I had. An, if I was 3.3 volts, and I put it in anyway, I could have blown out the motherboard. Not good. Finally, in desperation, I went and looked at the AGP specs, and discovered that they keyed the cards, so that the 3.3 volt cards will not fit in 1.5 volt only slots. My card fit, and booted, and is okay. Whew! That could have been another $100 for a new graphics card.

So, now I have my new computer up and running, and installing Gentoo as I write this, so all is good. I’ll keep you all posted as to the state of my case modding, complete with pictures (once Janette’s camera arrives).

Saws, planes, and routers oh-my!

I did woodworking today. It was cool, even though I initially messed up and straight-cut to length instead of mitre-cut to length. It all worked out okay, and the cuts are all done. I didn’t even lose any fingers this time. Big improvement over last time. I’d say what we were making, but it’s for Janette’s mom, and there’s an outsice chance she might read this. Anyway, it really felt good to be woodworking. Maybe I can make some bookshelves now…

The two big things on my list are an entertanment center, and a computer desk. I don’t think I’ll be able to work on either until I have a permenant home for my tools, as both of those will be quite a few sessions of work. Bookshelves, however, should be doable.

Another wedding

In a sort of deja-vu entry, I’m going back to the very beginning of the blog, and blogging about a wedding. Today, we went to Suzie’s wedding. It was a touch boring, frankly. I’m not one to gush about a wedding just because it’s a wedding. Yes, it was nice, but it was an extremely standard Catholic wedding. The wedding itself was pretty much the same as ours, except for the unity candle. Now, we didn’t do a unity candle, because we think it’s kindof hokey, but they did it. First, the parents lit the two side candles, then later Suzie and Tony went up to light the central candle. The thing is, they couldn’t get it lit, They tried and tried, but it wouldn’t light. Then, the match-like things they were using went out! It was so funny, and everyone was laughing. It was great. It could win money on AFV. Not a good omen for the marriage.

The recpetion was just bog standard reception. They had a big band, which meant not very good dance music, and the DJ played one, that’s right one, song that was recorded during our lifetime. Kinda sad. And the cake was really blah. All in all, a fairly boring reception. At least we only missed the first period of hockey.
