Mars closeup
As you may or may not know, last night was the closest approach to earth in 60,000 years. Apparently, there were tons of crackpots who thought that mars was going to hit the earth, or was going to be so close that the gravity would cause massive earthquakes. NASA phones were ringing off the hook with people scared the end of the world was near. Well, it was a close call, but mars managed to miss us by a measly 34,647,420 miles. Phew! That was close!
To celebrate this historic event, Janette and I went out and took pictures of mars with her digital camera. Here’s the best we could do:
For compareson’s sake, here’s the Hubble image:

Apparently, Hubble has a slightly better zoom than Janette’s camera.
Do you see that round part North-East of the polar ice? Doesn’t that look like maybe where the polar ice might have been at one time billions of years ago? Could Mars have experienced an axis shift like some scientists think happened on Earth one time? Hmmm.
