Boo Yah!

Well, folks, it’s official. I have, in my grubby hands (well, not as I type, because my hands are typing, but…) a signed contract for our new house. Barring a strange occurance, like failing the inspection or title problems (both unlikely, because the house was previously sold in Dec 2000), or all the banks that pre-approved us suddenly changing they’re collective minds, we will officially take posession of our new house on or before Aug. 13.

I was walking down the beach, and all the lights went out.

This is ponderous, man. Really ponderous.

I’ve been having problems with the screen on my new laptop. It’s burning in, along lines that are commonly static on the screen, such as the top of the bar along the bottom of the screen. I’ve been going back and forth with Dell about this, and they’ve finally agreed to replace the screen.

Get this: They’re sending me a new screen for my laptop, with instructions on how to change it! This blows my mind. I’ve never heard of a company sending an end user a new screen for they’re laptop to replace themselves. I’m a bit wigged out, never mind that I just took a screen out of a dead laptop to replace the dead screen in another one.

So, the $64,000 question is: Does this void my warrantee?

Housage!

Our offer has been accepted! Woo hoo!!!

Mod city

Well, I just made my first dremel mod. A minor one, but one none the less. The new case I bought had the fan outlets in the back mostly blocked with a few holes. I dremeled off the whole thing, leaving a complete hole in one of them. Picture to follow.

Monster MP3 player

This has got to be one of the most blatent cases of overkill I’ve seen in modding. The guy put a quad-processor E450 into his car to serve MP3s! Wow. Just having an inverter for DC to AC220 in my car would scare me…

Of course, my in-car mp3 player is a Rio Karma

One expensive game

This is funny.

In case they’ve taken it down:

Bad Movies.

I’ve only seen 12 of the bottom 100 movies on IMDB. Not bad. Of course, I liked a bunch of them…

I find it amusing that The Worst Movie Of All Time (Plan 9 from Outer Space) is 94 on the list.

I’ve seen 33 of the top 100, tho, and there’s some 10-15 more that I want to see. I guess I have better taste in movies than I thought…

Not fanless afterall

So, it turns out my laptop does have a fan, and it even comes on. It came on when I was watching a DVD. It’s just so quiet, that you can’t really hear it. I had to put my hand next to the vent and feel the air movement. Much better than the leaf blower that was in my last laptop.

Laptop update

One patch-and-kernel-rebuild later, my touchpad is (almost) working. The scrolling works fine now, but the multi-finger-tap doesn’t. I’m not sure this touchpad is capable of that, tho. I’ll have to look into it.

All the hardware I care about is now working great on this laptop. The only thing not yet checked is the modem, and I couldn’t care less about that. There are drivers for it, so theoretically it should work, but I don’t use modems.

The wireless card is amazing. It gets reception from across the street through two buildings here, and never left 100% at home. Boo ya!
