U of M appears to have shot themselves in the foot. This year, they started requiring donations to have season tickets to football, above and beyond the cost of the tickets. In addition, they changed the waitlist so that, even though you’re on the list, you can’t actually get season tickets unless you donate, and your position on the list depends soley on the size of your donation, not how long you’ve been on the list. The theory was that, Michigan fans being rabid, they could just con extra money of them.
Well, it apears to have backfired, not much to my surprise. No one I’ve talked to is going along with it. We, for example, have been on the wait list for 4 years, but we’re not going to “donate” a cent. So, no season tickets for us. Or so we thought.
Every year, they offer partial ticket packages to the people on the wait list, for games where they have extra tickets. This year was no different, and we ordered one of their three game packages. Then, we got notice that we could also order the other package, which we did. In case you’re either bad at math or don’t know how many home games there are, that’s all 6 home games that we have tickets for. In other words, we have season tickets this year. (Well, not really, because our seats will be different for different games, but that’s okay.)
This has not happened before, in our experience. Sometimes, we’ve even gotten less that half the games, or only the pansy games. I have to believe that this is because of people dropping their season tickets and leaving the waitlist, refusing to pay the extortion. And, I don’t blame them.
We’ll see if U of M’s ongoing record for sold out games continues throughout the year…
