She Rolled Over!

And rolled back, but I was uploading this from my camera, so I couldn’t get a picture.

The G5 iMacs are out now, and I’m disappointed again. Why can’t Apple offer a competative solution? I mean, come on. I guess I still won’t be getting an Apple any time soon. Maybe this will drive down some of the used G5 market… nah.
I made cornbread for the first time today. It was remarkably easy, although I had to buy a cast iron skillet to cook it in. All in all, it turned out very good. Definitely tastes like cornbread. Next time, I think I’ll put more sugar in, as it’s not really sweet enough. Good, tho.
It’s a sad day. The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn will be without Craig. For 8 years, Craig has been my favorite show, dating back to the Daily Show (which I think sucks now. It’s totally politics, no comedy).
I’m going to have to cancel our Season Pass on the Tivo.
So, I ran across this today, and a couple of things jumped out at me.
First, you give people a camera, and ask them to take pictures, and they take pictures of a few different things: girls/women posing in model poses, groups obviously posing (and usually with arms around each other), and paneramics. Very little else. Some candids, some obvious accidental ones, like pictures of feet, and a buch with fingers obscuring them, but generally just those three things.
Second, the slums of Rio are really slums. The surroundings are beautiful, but the houses the people live in are absolutely squalid; worse than anything I’ve seen here in the US.
And, in spite of that, the people look happy.
None of the blogs I follow seem to be getting updated… Only the planets actually get updates, but that’ s cheating, since there’s dozens of actual blogs on them.
Vytautas Janusaitis. What a great name.
Well, I guess we’re officially in. On Saturday, we turned in our keys to the old place, and yesterday, we had a party for Morgan’s baptism. Needless to say, this caused a fury of moving, cleaning, and putting-away on Friday and Saturday. Exhausting.
However, we’re “done” (are you ever really done moving in?), so now we can relax, right? Wrong. There’s still a hundred-and-one things to do…
Moving is a royal pain.
Anyway, the closing went off without a hitch. We signed a ton of documents, and the seller guy signed 3, and we forked of a huge check (largest check I’ve ever seen), and got the keys. We are now the proud owners of a house. It feels really good, and is already starting to feel like home.
However, we have way too much stuff. We rented a trunk on Friday, and moved all the big stuff (with the help of Greg and Ruth. Thanks guys!). However, after that, the apartment seemed more full then when we lived there! It’s amazing how much little stuff is in/on the big stuff, and how much space it takes up when it’s spread all over the floor in various containers.
On Saturday, we spent the morning garage-saling and shopping. We got some nice stuff at the garage sales, including an entertainment center. It’s really great to get rid of that weird monstrosity of an entertainment center we had. In addition, we bought two bedside tables. One at a garage sale cost $7, one at the store cost $35. Then, during the afternoon, Janette’s dad helped us move many carloads of little stuff. By the evening, the apartment was starting to look empty, rather than full.
Yesterday, we did some more shopping and some more moving. With the exception of my computer desk and the kitchen, we’re basically moved now. Good stuff.
Of course, Comcast screwed us. I called up Friday before last to get our cable moved to the new place. The would let us even schedule the turn on at the new place until the curren service was off. Not scheduled to be turned off, off. Mind you, they didn’t tell me this until after I’d scheduled our current cable to be turned off on the 6th. So, on the 5th, I was finally able to schedule our cable to be turned on, and it wont happen until next Thursday. Fortunatly, it appears that our cable is not yet actually off at the old place, so I’ve left the servers there for the moment, and our email and so on is still flowing. I hate Comcast. I really wish Ann Arbor had not given them the stupid monopoly. Maybe it’s worth an extra $50 a month to not have Internet through them.
So, now we have until Saturday to finish moving and clean up. Lots of late evenings. Anyone want to volunteer to watch Morgan? We discovered on Sunday how little we can get done when she’s there…
I’m so sick of comment spammers it’s not even funny. Even with my blacklist setup, they still get through. I just had to delete about 350 of them from our blogs. Maybe I’ll just turn off comments…
