The saga of moving

Moving is a royal pain.

Anyway, the closing went off without a hitch. We signed a ton of documents, and the seller guy signed 3, and we forked of a huge check (largest check I’ve ever seen), and got the keys. We are now the proud owners of a house. It feels really good, and is already starting to feel like home.

However, we have way too much stuff. We rented a trunk on Friday, and moved all the big stuff (with the help of Greg and Ruth. Thanks guys!). However, after that, the apartment seemed more full then when we lived there! It’s amazing how much little stuff is in/on the big stuff, and how much space it takes up when it’s spread all over the floor in various containers.

On Saturday, we spent the morning garage-saling and shopping. We got some nice stuff at the garage sales, including an entertainment center. It’s really great to get rid of that weird monstrosity of an entertainment center we had. In addition, we bought two bedside tables. One at a garage sale cost $7, one at the store cost $35. Then, during the afternoon, Janette’s dad helped us move many carloads of little stuff. By the evening, the apartment was starting to look empty, rather than full.

Yesterday, we did some more shopping and some more moving. With the exception of my computer desk and the kitchen, we’re basically moved now. Good stuff.

Of course, Comcast screwed us. I called up Friday before last to get our cable moved to the new place. The would let us even schedule the turn on at the new place until the curren service was off. Not scheduled to be turned off, off. Mind you, they didn’t tell me this until after I’d scheduled our current cable to be turned off on the 6th. So, on the 5th, I was finally able to schedule our cable to be turned on, and it wont happen until next Thursday. Fortunatly, it appears that our cable is not yet actually off at the old place, so I’ve left the servers there for the moment, and our email and so on is still flowing. I hate Comcast. I really wish Ann Arbor had not given them the stupid monopoly. Maybe it’s worth an extra $50 a month to not have Internet through them.

So, now we have until Saturday to finish moving and clean up. Lots of late evenings. Anyone want to volunteer to watch Morgan? We discovered on Sunday how little we can get done when she’s there…

  1. I have to check, but if I’m not working tomorrow, I’d be able to help :) I’ll give a call later on with a real answer.
