Morgan blogged!

Oh my god, Morgan (the other one) blogged! It’s only been 9 months…

Not a whole lot to say, tho… :)
On that whole gaming note, I spent maybe 20 hours last week playing San Andreas. That is a wonderful game. Definitely the most fun I’ve had since Civilization. Still have tons to do.

Tools

So, I finally got may tools moved into our garage from Janette’s parent’s garage. This involved wiring up two new lights and a few new outlets in the garage, and cleaning out/putting away everything that was all over the floor, so I’d have space, power, and light. Now, it’s all done, and the tools are moved. Not set up as a shop yet, but that can wait a bit.

Now, all I need to do is refinish the tables on all my saws, because they’ve rusted… Then, I can get some serious woodworking done. ;)

Comercial Hijinx

For the past couple of weeks, Miller has been running an ad campain featuring football refs penalizing Bud Light drinkers, and replacing the Bud Light with Miller Light. Now, Budwiser has responded by hijacking the commercial theme, and having the refs stealing the Bud Light because they want it, not replacing Bud Light with a better beer. This is quite funny, and is the first example I can think of of one company hijacking another company’s commericals.

Vacation

I’m now officially on vacation for a week. Of course, I’ll spend much of that time with family over the holiday, but still, I should get some quality loafing (read video-gaming) in over that time. I’m definitely looking forward to it. It’s been too long since I had any real time off.

Toothies!

Morgan has a tooth! The lower left front tooth is all the way through, and the lower right is peeking. :)

By, TSS. We’ll miss you.

TSS is dead. Fucking comcast. If I had any alternatives, I’d ditch their cable, too, instead of just their internet.

Idiot Road Designers

So, they’ve finished the section of Main St. between Ann-Arbor Saline and the mall. I have to drive this strech of road every day to and from work, so I have a little tiny bit of experience with the traffic patterns on it.

Before they repaved it, it was two lanes in each direction, with no turn lane. On the AAS end, it widened out to five lanes, with a left turn lane at the light for turning on to AAS. At the Eisenhower end, it did much the same thing, with a dedicated left turn lane. The traffic flow was generally pretty good. People turned left a lot, but it didn’t matter, because there was two lanes. During rush hour, the traffic was fairly heavy, and both lanes were generally fairly full. The single most sticky spot was going from the mall toward AAS, right before the street widened. There’s an entrance to the little strip mall there, and that same entrance serves a huge apartment complex. During rush hour, the left lane there was always backed way up with people trying to turn left into that entrance. It largely didn’t matter to people going straight, as they just used the right lane.

Fast forward to now. They’ve reduced the entire length that was two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction, with a left turn lane. This generally won’t cause a problem, except for two (three) things.
1) At both ends, there is two lanes in each direction, plus a turn lane, just like before. That means that traffic entering this section of Main st. has to merge down from two to one lane, in both directions. This causes problems.
1.5) At the AAS end, rather than the two lanes just merging down, the right lane is turn only into the stripmall/apt. complex. This is nuts, because there’s two left turn lanes feeding into that section. It causes even more problems than the other end, and makes is really hard to turn out of that stripmall.
2) There is no left turn lane turning into the stripmall/apt. complex! This means that, during rush hour, traffic just backs up!

The result of this whole deal is that traffic sucks. They’ve made things much much worse than it was before. Thus, my conclusion that road designers in Ann Arbor are complete morons who never actually drive here.

Technology Collides

From Slashdot:

That night also had what was, for me, the highlight of the conference. I refer, of course, to the ultimate convergence of technology. The perfect connection of human and robot. The consumate collision of 21st century geek products. I am referring, of course, to the moment that a Segway ran over Roomba.

Firefox 1.0

Mozilla Firefox 1.0 is out now. Get it. (Well, once the entire world stops hitting the website into oblivion…)

Styles

Okay, I’ve added some styles to our blogs. This is a per-user decision, and is maintained by cookies. Just pick from the dropbox in the menu area (it’s on the lower right on the default style), and choose the style you like best. It should stay that way.

UPDATE:
Note that I’ve changed the base domain for our blogs www.gryniewicz.com. If you have www.fprintf.net in your bookmark, the blogs will still work, but the styles won’t be saved, because of cookie issues. Just change your bookmarks to http://www.gryniewicz.com/dang/blog/ and http://www.gryniewicz.com/nette/blog/
