Middling Epic Fail?

Okay, so you can’t have a middling epic fail. :P However, it’s certianly a middling fail, either in UI design or in features.

See, I’ve been reading all about decibel on the planet, and I thought I’d give it a try now that it’s in portage. I emerged it, started it, and it said to pick a location. Apparently, it can only find music in your homedir. If (like me) your music is elsewhere, tough.

Ah well. I didn’t really need a new music player anyway…

EDIT:

Okay, it’s only the minor fail of being undiscoverable.  Thanks to nightmorph, it actually works (with a few minor caveats).  I suspect I won’t change from rhythmbox to it any time soon, but you never know.  If someone were to write a library plugin based on tracker, I’d probably switch.

  1. Wrong! You have achieved middling epic fail! :D

Just kidding, of course. But the screenshots are quite clear on both the homepage, and on my Decibel page. At least, I think they are.

You can pick from different locations, and you can pick from more than one location, as I’ve been saying.

What you need to do is go to Preferences, then do at least 1 of 2 things:

    1. Go to File Explorer, choose Preferences for this plugin. Click “Add” to add a new music location to browse.

    2. Enable the “Library” plugin. Click “Add” and supply the location for each directory you want Decibel to watch. This gives you the nice alphabetized list (by tag, rather than the traditional browse-by-filename).

Now that you’ve setup your library and additional music browsing locations, you can switch between them when adding stuff to the playlist by using the dropdown box on the lower left.

So try it again! Don’t give up just yet! Please?
